The 22nd Int’l Film Festival of Kerala in India is screening 3 Iranian movies.

The 22nd edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in India has been set to screen Iranian movies ‘Kupal’, ‘Downpour’ and ‘Villa Residents’.

The Indian festival has scheduled to screen the Iranian flicks on the second day of the event in the World Cinema and Restored Classics sections.

The 128-minute ‘Downpour’ (1972) directed by Bahram Beyzai, starring Parviz Fannizadeh, Parvaneh Massoumi, Mohammad-Ali Keshavarz and Jamshid Layeq, is going on screen at the Restored Classics section.

Its story revolves around Hekmati, an educated and progressive teacher who is transferred to a school in the south of Tehran, a poor conservative area.

The 100-minute ‘Villa Residents’ (Villa Dwellers) directed by Monir Qeydi, starring Tanaz Tabatabaei, Parinaz Izadyar, Anahita Afshar, Ali Shadman, Saber Abar and Soraya Qasemi, is going on screen at the World Cinema section.

The movie chronicles events facing wives of Iran army commanders at the time of the Iraq-imposed war on Iran. It is filmed in residential villas for army forces in southern Iran and set in Persian calendar years between 1362 and 1363 (more than 30 years ago).

The 81-minute ‘Kupal’ directed by Kazem Molaie, going on screen in World Cinema section, stars Levon Haftvan, Nazanin Farahani, Pouria Rahimi-Sam and Hossein Shamsabadi.

It narrates the story of Dr. Ahmad Kupal, who is a taxidermist hunter, as he faces a challenge just before the New Year.

The flick has so far attended the competition section of some 25 international film festivals all around the world.

The IFFK, acknowledged as one of the leading cultural events in India, is an annual event held in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum).

Started in 1996, the festival is hosted in November/December every year by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala.

The 22nd edition of the IFFK has been slated for December 8-15, 2017.
